The 3rd round of Covid lockdown restrictions had been lifted on the day of Dot and Jack's pre wedding shoot and James (partner in film and life) and I were feeling super excited to be meeting up with Dot and Jack after what had felt like the longest winter ever. We couldn’t have hoped for better weather for the engagement shoot with bright blue skies and golden sunshine as we headed into the Yorkshire Dales for our shoot.
The Coniston Hotel itself is set in beautiful open countryside on a 1400 acre estate with stunning views everywhere you look. We arrived in plenty of time for a recce before Dot, Jack and Ray arrived, hoping to find some interesting spots to shoot. For a while, the day turned a bit blustery and it looked touch and go on whether we'd be able to fly the drone, but then the wind dropped, the sun shone and we stumbled on a perfect little fairy glade filled with gorgeous golden light gleaming through the trees...
On meeting Dot and Jack back at the cars, Doggo Ray bounded out of the back looking completely gorgeous and dapper in a bright spotty bow tie- I was in love!
This was the first outing for my new 50mm lens! I had been waiting to use it outside of our own garden for a few weeks and this was the perfect opportunity - it totally lived up to my expectations too! Lovely 'bokeh' blur, lightning fast focus and those flares in the sun - wow! I am so happy with all the investment I've made in gear over the Covid period and I really can't wait to put them properly to work as the 2021 wedding season gets going!
As we headed out of the woods back towards the lake, I had the perfect angle for the last of the golden-hour light to pick out this lovely trio. James had been quietly filming the whole time and he also had a couple of opportunities to get the Mavic Pro 2 Drone in the air, bagging some beautiful footage of the lovely little group as they stood on a jetty as the sun went down. It was the perfect ending to our shoot at The Coniston Hotel.
